12:58, Wexford street, city centre of Dublin
Let's start with the overnight place from last night
Just entered Dublin. After a stop on a camping (where I emptied the toilet).
I missed the entrance of the camping the first time. Stupid hey? You can
clearly see it at the left.
I went 'in from the south'. I went all the way to the city centre and then
went out slowly to find a outdoor parking place (the indoor parking places
are to low of course). So now there is a new apartment in Wexford street. Number 35b
alias ZL-89-DP! It looks like quite a safe street. Busy, clean, well mainted houses and
some cars even have the front of their radio in place. You should try that
in any of the bigger cities in Holland... I am also glad I made the
'city-parking-curtains' I have total privacy now so I don't need to be
scared that anyone will see me typing on a laptop (they can't see it isn't worth
a penny). But anyway, I am now rounding up, there's an internet cafe just
at my back so that's why you get this small update. That's what I will visit
first. Or maybe just inform their opening times and then I'll get back
tonight.
The city curtains in action.
Then I will now first try to find out where I am exactly and try
to find the Guinness brewery!
21:58, Still at Wexford street
What a great city!
I have been here for less then 10 hours now and I like it. I really like it.
First I went to the internet cafe. It is open until right now. But I got delayed...
So I will have to go tommorrow. When I came back from the centre, I bought
some chicken fillet, but it is now in the fridge, it will have to wait untill
tommorow.
When I went into the city centre I crossed the temple bar. This part of town
is supposed to be the most lively and I could notice. There is a summer-long
festival of free cultural events (familiy fun
www.templebar.ie. Those events take place every sunday and I just happened
to pass one of them. I saw Compania Al Badulake. It was magnificent. It was
a combination of flamingo dance, music and acrobacy. After their show I read
there name and I can slightly recall that I have heard it before. I shot a lot
of photo's so you will see what I mean soon.
Then I went to the Guinness brewery. I was expecting some kind of museum
and then a bar where you could get a drink. Basically speaking this was true.
But it was a little bit more then that.
Some brewery building shots.
All was placed inside an building from
1904. It was completly changed from a fermittry (sorry don't know the
exact word) to a visitor centre. The visitor centre could as well been described
as a 'museum where contempary art is combined with an industrial heritage' but
they prefer to use the name 'Guinness storehouse'. I did take plenty of
pictures so you'll see what I mean.
Example of a 'display'. There were 4 TV screens surrounded by mirrors. When
you take a look inside, you see a globe made of TV screens. The screens
displayed parts of Guinness commericals.
Then there was the drink at the end. It
was not just a bar (where you have a look to the souvenier shop). It was
a bar placed with a view all over Dublin and the wide area. I spend more
then 2 hours just being there... While I was enjoying my pint the bartenders
also annouced that there was a (free) course to learn to test Guinness.
Of course I had to join.
How to test your Guinness.
There they were also able to tell me that it was
possible to have your hand on pulling a Guinness so I could not withstand
the temption. So now I have a certificate showing that I pulled a perfect
pint of Guinness. Touristic? Yes! But I will but it on the back of my bus
so everybody can read it!!! (at least it is better then an Ireland sticker or
a moose sign)
We already knew that one :)
Let's end with the overnight place for the next 2 nights
